Week Five
February 27 - March 5

February 27

Today I take time to sit and be peaceful
There is nothing I desire more than peace of mind.
In a peaceful state of mind I can accomplish all my goals, face every challenge, and overcome every apparent obstacle. Peace of mind is not only enjoyable, it is supportive of my career, my relationships, my health and every aspect of my life. So at the beginning of this day I take time to sit, relax and be peaceful. I find a comfortable position in my chair, close my eyes and then take a few deep, relaxing breaths. I focus on my breathing. By closing my eyes and focusing my attention on my breathing, I grow more and more peaceful with every moment. This is so enjoyable that I do it in the morning as I begin my day and then again several times throughout the day.

Today I give life the light touch
Sometimes life can become a series of pressure-packed deadlines, heavy obligations and significant business. We can get lost in the drama of it all and take life far too seriously. Today I intend to find a way to play and have some fun. Play is not just for children, it’s for adults as well. Every part of me is enriched when I give in to the healing spirit of play and have some fun. Today I will laugh. I will read something humorous and enjoy a good belly laugh. Perhaps I will watch a funny program or video and just give way to freeing, healthy merriment. Today I will let go of the drama of life. The past teaches me that what seems so crucial today is often something I’ll laugh about tomorrow. So I’ll take myself a lot less seriously today and give life the light touch!

March 1

Today I take time to enjoy and appreciate my family
Family means different things to different people. The definition of family today is very different from years past. A family is a coming together of loving people who create a cohesive unit of support and love for the common good of all. The word family might be used to describe any group of like-minded people, though not necessarily blood relatives. Whether to me family means my spouse, child, parent, sibling, cousin or friend, today I take time to enjoy and appreciate them. I appreciate the love and support I get from my family. When I have challenges, I count on them to hold the high watch. God created all forms of families that love might express, and they are Blessed. Today and every day, I enjoy and appreciate my family.

Today I re-label my “mistakes” as lessons
I live in the present, honoring all of the experiences that continue to enrich my life. By incorporating the lessons I have learned from these experiences, I become a better human being. I remember my spiritual nature and I know that I am not my mistakes. I am a beloved child of God. I live in a world that God created, and today I call all of my memories good. I nourish a growing awareness of God’s presence in all of my life experiences, calling me to be all that I can be. And I say Thank you, God! I realize that God calls me to wholeness (“holiness”) in the everyday events and circumstances of my life. All of my behaviors and experiences, whether or not I have judged them as “mistakes,” are lessons. Today, I am grateful for everything that has happened in my life, and I call it good.

March 3

Today I allow others to have their beliefs
There is no room for judging others “wrong” in the hearts of those who seek to be the full expression of God’s love on the planet. We must continuously sweep our hearts clean of these inclinations that we may shine with love and kindness at all times. We cannot waste precious energy judging other belief systems as “wrong” or retaliating against words and deeds. In the spirit of love, we employ another method. We give the soft answer. We bless those who judge or criticize us and silently trust the justice of God to be our defense. As we behold the Truth that God expresses in every human being, we encourage them to let their innate goodness shine forth. We are filled with compassion and love others as God loves us.

March 4

Today I make time to relax and enjoy
God wants me to live in peace. I cooperate by creating
a life which allows time for relaxation and enjoyment, making my presence a blessing to others. Every day I make choices about how to balance between work, chores, family, relaxing, socializing and entertainment. I pay attention to how I’m feeling and make choices that support me in being at my best. Regular relaxation and entertainment is important for my health and well-being, and today I make time for it. I wisely choose nonviolent shows and movies that lift my spirit. I listen to soothing music. I walk in a peaceful, quiet place. Whatever I choose promotes balance and peace within me and positively affects others around me. Today I make time to relax and enjoy.

March 5

Today I am grateful for peacemakers
“Blessed are the peacemakers.” Today, I give thanks for all of the peacemakers in the world; past and present. I reflect on the examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I remember others who stand for world peace and those who are, right now, working for nonviolence in my own community. I am grateful for all efforts to provide peace and safety for myself and my loved ones. I reflect on my own family and circle of friends, acknowledging each who offers words and actions which calm disagreements and foster forgiveness. I honor myself that in reading this booklet and doing these practices, I am becoming a better peacemaker.

"We must first
           Be the
   change...
    we wish to see in
                   the world"
